Role Overview:
The Lead Teacher, Scholar Seminar plays a key role in advancing scholar personal development, school culture, and character education at Ethos Classical. This role focuses on leading weekly seminar sessions for scholars in grades 5 and 6, grounded in The Essential 55 by Ron Clark. Through these sessions, the Lead Teacher supports scholars in setting personal goals, reflecting on their growth, and building strong character and leadership habits. In addition to this instructional work, the Lead Teacher serves as a culture leader in the school, helping to uphold and nurture a joyful, respectful, and focused learning environment across the school house.
Key Responsibilities:
Scholar Seminar Instruction & Advisory:
- Facilitate engaging, weekly Scholar Seminar sessions for all 5th and 6th grade scholars.
- Guide scholars in setting and tracking individual growth goals rooted in character and academic development.
- Integrate lessons from The Essential 55 and other core resources to build scholar leadership, etiquette, and life skills.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams to align seminar goals with academic and cultural expectations.
School Culture Leadership:
- Support the development of a consistent and joyful culture across 5th and 6th grade classrooms and common spaces.
- Lead or assist with scholar mediations and restorative conversations as needed.
- Partner with the Director of Culture & Scholar Intervention and classroom teachers to implement culture routines, recognition systems, and community-building practices.
- Serve as a visible presence in hallways, lunch, and transitions, reinforcing expectations and supporting scholars with in-the-moment coaching and positive reinforcement.
Relationship & Data Management:
- Build strong, supportive relationships with scholars and families, serving as a trusted mentor and advocate.
- Track individual scholar progress toward personal goals and character benchmarks.
- Participate in weekly culture or grade-level meetings to provide insights and updates on scholar progress and trends.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree required; teaching certification preferred.
- 2+ years of teaching experience, ideally in middle grades or advisory roles.
- Deep belief in the potential of every child and a passion for character education and positive school culture.
- Strong classroom management skills and ability to lead high-impact discussions and routines with scholars.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both adults and scholars.
- Familiarity with The Essential 55 or a commitment to learning and implementing its principles with fidelity.
Schedule:
This is a full-time position. Hours align with the school day schedule, with occasional after-school or evening commitments as needed. Hours are 7:30am 4:30pm.
