Astra Day School (www.astradayschool.org,) an initiative of the Kansas City Autism Training Center (KcATC) applies sound principles of behavioral science to create a nurturing, assent-based preschool environment. We seek a teacher who evokes Mary Poppins—someone who turns daily routines into learning adventures and inspires children to “reach beyond” with enthusiasm. We are currently hiring for Lead Teachers in the Seedling-Lavender Room (ages 2-3) and the Maple-Sunflower Room (ages 4-5.)
Key Responsibilities
Magic in Structure: Implement an explicit, evidence-based, lesson plan within an imaginative, structured classroom environment
Assent-Based Engagement: Invite participation thoughtfully; honor each child’s voice and choice, just as Astra embraces assent-based learning
Nurturing Growth: Foster socio–emotional skills through everyday interactions as a consistent model for classroom support staff
Individualized Teaching: Use explicit, individualized instruction and precise strategies, balancing support for early achievers and children with more complex needs within the classroom
Classroom Enchantment: Infuse lessons with creativity—songs, stories, sensory play—making learning feel like a joyful journey
Collaboration & Communication: Encourage family engagement with regular, inviting updates; reflect Astra’s philosophy of parents as co-learners; support and educate staff with respect and kindness

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field (graduate credentials a plus)
Previous supervisory experience leading staff and communicating with parents
Willing to acquire an RBT certification (see bacb.com) within the first 6 months of employment
Enthusiasm to engage and educate children with and without diagnoses
Familiarity with a variety of educational philosophies and a willingness to teach in an environment that combines several of them to help children, with and without Autism, learn
CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to become certified)
