Duties
1. Planning Instruction Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans.
Teach foundational skills like letters, numbers, colors, shapes, and fine/gross motor activities.
Incorporate creative play, music, art, and sensory activities.
Adapt instruction to meet each child’s learning style and needs.
2. Classroom Management Create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
Establish and enforce clear routines and expectations.
Use positive guidance techniques to manage behavior.
3. Child Supervision Constantly supervise children to ensure safety and well-being.
Monitor both indoor and outdoor play.
Maintain appropriate teacher-child ratios.
4. Observation Assessment Observe and document children’s developmental progress.
Conduct assessments and maintain child portfolios.
Use data to individualize instruction.
5. Communication Communicate with parents daily about behavior, milestones, and concerns.
Conduct parent-teacher conferences.
Collaborate with co-teachers and directors on student needs.
6. Compliance Health Follow all childcare licensing and center policies.
Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of classroom and toys.
Assist with toileting and self-help skills, if needed.
Maintain required certifications (CPR, First Aid, etc.).
7. Professional Development Attend training and workshops (e.g., Texas Rising Star or NAEYC standards).
Stay updated on early childhood education best practices.
Requirements
Must be 18 years or older
High school diploma or GED
Ability to pass a background check and FBI fingerprinting
CPR and First Aid certification (or willing to obtain within 30 days)
Must love working with children
Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
Willing to complete required early childhood training hours
Nice To Haves
Prior experience in a licensed childcare facility
CDA (Child Development Associate) credential
Familiarity with Texas Minimum Standards
Bilingual (especially Spanish-speaking)
Experience with lesson planning or classroom management
Knowledge of Texas Rising Star or NAEYC accreditation standards
