Nursery School Teacher
Randolph College Nursery School is seeking a part-time Lead Teacher. The person selected for this position will be responsible for planning and leading the daily operations of a preschool classroom in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Nursery School. This person will assume the duties of acting Director at times when the Director is absent.
Successful candidates will have a love and understanding of children, and the capacity to communicate well with parents and co-workers in a positive, professional manner. Good humor and a loving attitude are a must! Teachers are expected to meet licensing standards for professional development and must receive a clear background check upon hire. Applicants with a bachelor's degree/CCA are preferred and must have professional experience working with young children.

Job Description Summary/objective
The Lead Teacher position is perfectly suited to someone who loves being around children and who has a passion for early childhood education. The Lead Teacher plans and leads the daily operations of a preschool classroom in accordance with the policies and philosophy of Randolph College Nursery School. This person will also assume the duties of acting Director at times when the Director is absent.
Essential functions

- Planning and carrying out age appropriate activities for the children.
- Ensure the classroom is kept in a clean and safe condition at all times
- Read stories to the children as a group activity
- Encourage creative thinking and learning
- Supervising and interacting with children in work and play.
- Observing and assessing children.
- Aiding children in developing self-help skills.
- Implementing a positive liaison with parents of the students through informative and encouraging conversation and written correspondence.
- Communicating with the other teachers and director to provide consistent care for
the children.
- Performing daily housekeeping activities.
- Attending required hours of staff development.
- Obtaining and maintaining CPR/First Aid certification
- Participating in Orientation and other professional trainings.
- Attending staff meeting and assisting in licensing requirements.

Preschool-aged children learn best in environments where they can have secure relationships with caring and responsive adults and where they feel free to explore and learn. Our play based program strives to create such an environment by keeping class size small, providing excellent staffing, and creating a safe and happy place to learn.

Required Education and Experience
- one or more years of successful experience in a preschool classroom
- Training in child development, behavior guidance, and other relevant topics
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or CCA
- One or more years of successful experience as a lead preschool teacher
Additional eligibility requirements
All staff must pass both a Criminal and Central Registry background check and provide references.
