Position Summary
The Lead Infant Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for infants aged 6 weeks to 12 months. This role involves planning and implementing individualized care and learning experiences, ensuring each childs basic needs are met, and fostering secure, trusting relationships with infants and their families. The Lead Infant Teacher also supervises and supports assistant teachers in the infant room.
Key Responsibilities
Infant Care & Development
Provide attentive, responsive care to infants, including feeding, diapering, and soothing according to individual needs and schedules.
Support infants physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth through age-appropriate sensory, motor, and language activities.
Promote secure attachments by consistently responding to infants cues in a warm, nurturing manner.
Track developmental milestones and identify potential areas for early intervention.
Curriculum & Daily Routines
Plan and implement daily routines and activities that encourage exploration, self-expression, and sensory experiences.
Integrate music, movement, tummy time, and language-rich interactions into daily schedules.
Create an environment that supports individual learning styles and respects each childs pace of development.
Classroom Management
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom that meets state licensing regulations and health standards.
Supervise and guide assistant teachers to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
Rotate and sanitize toys, materials, and equipment regularly to prevent illness and ensure safety.
Family Communication
Establish and maintain open, positive communication with families through daily reports, verbal updates, and scheduled conferences.
Provide individualized updates on feeding, sleeping, diapering, and developmental progress.
Partner with families to maintain consistent care routines between home and the center.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate daily records, including attendance, feeding schedules, diaper changes, and developmental notes.
Comply with all licensing regulations, center policies, and safety procedures.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential preferred or willingness to obtain.
At least 2 year of experience working with children in a licensed childcare setting preferably infants.
Strong understanding of infant development, safe sleep practices, and responsive caregiving.
CPR and First Aid & SIDS certification (or willingness to obtain).
Ability to work collaboratively with a team and communicate effectively with families.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry infants and equipment up to 40 pounds.
Frequent bending, standing, kneeling, and sitting on the floor.
Ability to respond quickly to infants needs in a busy classroom environment.
Work Environment
Indoor infant classroom with soft play and exploration spaces.
