Position Overview: Art TeacherMystic Valley is seeking a dedicated and creative Art Teacher to deliver engaging instruction in alignment with the Core Knowledge Sequence. The successful candidate will introduce students to art history, techniques, and cultural context, while guiding them in expressing their understanding through hands-on projects that complement other subjects in the curriculum.
This position requires strong organizational skills, as there is no dedicated art room. The Art Teacher must store and manage supplies across different buildings and be able to set up and break down materials efficiently for each class. Timeliness, classroom management, and collaboration with other staff members are essential to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:Provide a comprehensive overview of art history and artistic expression aligned with the Core Knowledge Sequence
Integrate art lessons with themes from other subject areas to reinforce cross-curricular connections
Prepare, organize, and transport materials between classrooms/buildings efficiently
Maintain punctuality and ensure smooth transitions for students between art and their next subjects
Establish a classroom culture of respect, creativity, and accountability
Serve as the primary authority in the classroom for behavior management, with support from instructional assistants as needed
Communicate regularly with homeroom teachers about student behavior, progress, and any disciplinary actions taken (e.g., card changes)
Support classroom expectations through positive reinforcement, aiming for a 4:1 ratio of praise to correction
Participate in team meetings, behavior tracking (TAT), and school-wide collaboration with professionalism and mutual respect
Promote group activities, creativity, and oral engagement through class discussions, games, and hands-on learning
Clearly communicate the nature of art instruction, including elevated noise levels or movement—to colleagues, especially those new to the school
Provide exam proctoring and be available for extra help sessions
Assist with school operations including lunch and recess coverage, and occasional classroom coverage as needed
Support co-curricular programs and events when possible
Experience teaching art or leading structured creative programs for children
Strong classroom management and organization skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across disciplines
Excellent communication skills and comfort in leading a classroom
Enthusiasm for inspiring creativity and connecting art to broader educational goals
