Qualifications: As set by state certification requirements and local board of education policies; minimum education requirements are a Child Development Associate credential or the equivalent of nine hours of coursework in childhood development as approved by the ALSDE.

Reports To: Principal
Supervises: Assigned students, all other students and aides when applicable
Job Goal: To help students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible members of society; assist parents, teachers, and students in acquiring materials to address academic needs; develop and administer programs that address specific needs of students.

Teaching Effectiveness/Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist in upholding school rules, policies, and procedures.
- Selects and effectively uses appropriate instructional materials which are made accessible to students, parents, and teachers; guides individuals in effectively using such materials.
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
- Accepts an equitable share of responsibility for the supervision of students for co-curricular activities.
- Assists with lesson planning and implementation that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students; teach and coordinate Tier 1, 2, & 3 instruction.
- Writes, speaks, and listens well and communicates on a level commensurate with varying abilities of the students. Works to maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Assists in initiating, developing, and implementing school policies and/or rules governing students' life and conduct.
- Strives toward continuous professional growth as needed for one's own professional area.
- Supervises and instructs classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Maintains accurate and adequate records and respects the confidentiality of information pertaining to students and staff.
- Cooperates with classroom teacher and other employees in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods as requested.
- Assesses student learning on a consistent, fair, and equitable basis and maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, board policy, and administrative guidelines; facilitates, collects, and interprets data necessary to develop, implement and evaluate Tier 1, 2 & 3 instruction.
- Assists in planning instruction following the Alabama State Course of Study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of diverse learners. Uses a variety of techniques and exhibits a knowledge of the subject matter.
- Provides a classroom environment that projects a pleasant but disciplined physical atmosphere, promoting positive self-control and self-concepts. Encourages a motivational atmosphere which respects the rights of others while reflecting the goals of the school system.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the system's instructional goals and objectives. Includes in instructional program all guidelines and mandates by authorized regulating agencies applicable to the area of concentration.
- Performs other reasonable and appropriate assignments as may be delegated by the administration in accordance with the policies of the Gadsden City Board of Education.
Evaluation: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on personnel evaluation.
