Infant/Toddler Teacher

The Infant/Toddler Teacher will provide a successful, safe and supervised educational setting for infants and toddlers while they are in the Early Head Start environment. They will develop individual goals for children, provide on-going assessment on progress and facilitate transition into Head Start or other pre-school settings. They will support parents in their role as primary caretakers and educators of their children and encourage their involvement in all aspects of the program.
Hourly Rate: $18.81 / Salary: $34,239.36
Schedule: 35 Hours Per Week - Monday through Friday
Please Note: Hours: 8:30 am to -3:30 pm. Up to (2) 8:00 AM arrivals per month for staff meetings and/or trainings and/or up to (2) 4:30 PM departures per month for staff meetings and/or trainings. 2 home visits per student. Extra hours worked will get paid.

Infant/Toddler Teachers will support and be assigned to all Early Head Start Centers, classrooms, and work locations as needed based on program needs.
Responsibilities
- Meet the needs of all children; including those who are at risk, those with special needs, those who are gifted, and those who are culturally diverse.
- Integrate all EHS components into classroom.
- Develop and utilize daily plans, which reflect mandated elements, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of EHS children.
- Individualize one-to-one and group activities to reflect the unique needs and strengths of all children in the classroom.
- Follow consistent routines, which include feeding, diapering and toileting, napping, planned small and large group experiences, choice time, activities such as music and movement, large and small motor activities, and effective transitions between activities.
- Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice-making.
- Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement.
- Work with appropriate agencies in developing specialized planning for children/families as needed.
- Coordinate special needs staff in the classroom and develop a collaborative approach that benefits all children in the classroom and meets needs as specified on the individual plans.
- Supervise and monitor children at all times.
- Respond to crisis or emergency situations that may occur. Provide first aid or CPR, prevent the spread of blood borne pathogens, and access emergency services as needed.
- Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings to plan for and deliver collaborative services across all components.
- Meet regularly with parents, and other staff regarding each child's status and progress.
- Conduct regular home visits for purposes of assessment and support, and to share information on parenting, educational strategies, and classroom progress.
- Plan and conduct regular parent meetings with team members.
- Communicate frequently with other parents and other staff; serve as liaison among medical and social services in the community; act as advocate for Head Start families.
- Do two parent/teacher conferences yearly.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma Required.
Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential and have been trained or have equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development preferred.
Experience Requirements: Two years' experience working with infant and toddlers, preferrably within a classroom setting.
Experience should include the ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all children including at risk, special needs, and culturally diverse populations.
