Job Title: Urban Planning Teacher School: Charette Charter High School Location: Providence, RI Reports To: School Principal or Executive Director Work Schedule: 190 Days (Full-Time, School-Year) Start Date: August 2025 Position Overview: Charette Charter High School is seeking a passionate, innovative, and culturally competent Urban Planning Teacher to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our academic staff, the Urban Planning Teacher will deliver high-quality, hands-on instruction aligned to our locally developed curriculum. This role is ideal for a candidate who brings both academic and professional expertise in urban planning and is committed to preparing students to thrive as engaged learners and purposeful citizens in a complex world. Key Responsibilities: -Deliver engaging and rigorous instruction in Urban Planning, Historic Preservation and Civic engagement aligned with the school's locally designed curriculum and academic standards (where applicable). -Incorporate high-quality instructional best practices that promote critical thinking, creativity, and real-world application. -Create a culturally responsive and inclusive classroom environment that reflects the diversity and experiences of students. -Effectively manage classroom behavior and promote a safe, supportive learning environment. -Design and implement project-based learning experiences, including field work and collaborative group projects with our community partners. -Lead and manage the senior Capstone Project process, supporting students through research, design, community engagement, and presentation. -Communicate clearly with families throughout the Capstone Project process. -Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary lessons and align instructional practices. -Develop and maintain relationships with local urban planning professionals, city agencies, and nonprofit organizations to support internships and other learning opportunities. -Support the school's efforts to expand community partnerships and coordinate student placements in real-world internship settings. -Monitor and assess student progress and adjust instruction to ensure academic success for all learners. -Participate in ongoing professional development, faculty meetings, and school events. -Uphold the mission, vision, and core values of the school. Qualifications: Required: Valid Rhode Island Teacher Certification (Secondary Education and History). Bachelor's degree or higher in Urban Planning or a closely related field. Working with diverse student populations. Demonstrated understanding of culturally responsive teaching practices. Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to student success. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Preferred: Master's degree in Urban Planning, Education, or History. Experience teaching in an urban school environment Experience with project-based learning and/or capstone project facilitation. Experience coordinating internships or work-based learning programs. Familiarity with community-based planning or civic engagement projects. Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications and follows the school's approved salary scale.
