Job Summary
Licensed Special Education Teachers develop and provide specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluate and assess student progress against instructional objectives; follow state mandated due process procedures and functions as Teachers of Record and/or Service to assigned students.
Essential Functions (include but are not limited to): Providing research-based specially designed instruction through direct student contact to address the instructional and functional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP. Assessing student progress and determining the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques. Adapting school and classroom environments, tools and materials for the purpose of improving student functioning and facilitating student access to curricular and instructional activities. Employing various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals. Developing and implementing annual Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) for students to include: present levels of educational and functional performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals. Scheduling team meetings and working cooperatively with Case Conference Committee team members. Coordinating the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP. Coordinating and assisting in the process of Child Find as the anticipated TOR, which may include instructional recommendations and evaluations. Complying with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations. Completing all district and state reporting requirements. Establishing and maintaining student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities. Employing and implementing a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures. Collaborating and consulting with education professionals and community service providers regarding student needs and implementation of services. Performing other comparable duties of a like or similar nature apparent or as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; implementation of specially designed instructional practices for both academic and functional needs of students; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE or ABILITY in the following are also required: principles, practices and procedures of special education school rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports ability to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administration and the general public ability to perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program knowledge of relevant technology, including the use of technology such as iPads, to individualize instruction ability to meet professional educator requirements of the school district and state knowledge and skills associated with working with children with ADD, ADHD and emotional disabilities. ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, operating a computer and other office equipment, reaching, lifting, moving and/or supporting weights up to 50lbs (and/or up to adult size body weight with two-to-three person lift). Lifting and physical restraint interactions consistent with approved training and/or professional development. Position can require physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior and/or other medical treatments delegated by nursing personnel.
Certificates & Licenses Minimum B.A./B.S. degree in teaching from an accredited institution in the appropriate special education area Indiana Teaching License in the specified areas of special education
Terms It is understood that the employee is a certified employee who will perform his or her duties for 183 days consistent with the school calendar of the CSF school corporation.
