The 12 month District Office Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will assess students to determine the impact of the hearing loss and areas of potential need for interventions. The 12 month District Office Teacher will collaborate and partner with school staff to implement IEP goals, IEP accommodations, providing direct service 1:1, in small groups, and as push-in classroom services. The 12 month District Office Teacher will monitor the use of communication access technology/services to support academic achievement and successful communication for students who are deaf and hard of hearing. The 12 month District Office Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will travel to schools to serve the needs of students with hearing loss. The 12 month teacher will provide direct services to a caseload of students who are deaf and hard of hearing, using best practices and consult with teams on eligibility, best practices, and accessibility. This position serves both KKP and HW complex areas (PS-12). Qualified applicants will hold a Special Education license and /or eligible for DHH licensure. If you are hired without completing a Teacher's Education Program, you have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. You must enroll in a Program to continue employment with the Department. Within each year of employment, you must satisfactorily demonstrate active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements, as set forth by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board (HTSB). It is your responsibility to ensure the program you have enrolled is aligned with the teaching line you are hired in.
