Position Overview
The Associate GSRP Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in delivering a high-quality, developmentally appropriate preschool experience for children enrolled in the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP). This role contributes to a nurturing, play-based learning environment by helping plan, implement, and assess educational activities while ensuring child safety and emotional well-being. The ideal candidate is passionate about early education, works well in a team, and maintains a professional, child-focused attitude at all times.
Key Responsibilities
Child Development & Instruction
Support the implementation of the GSRP curriculum and classroom plans.
Prepare and organize learning materials and activity centers daily.
Encourage play-based, hands-on learning across all developmental domains.
Engage children with positive, patient, and joyful interactions.
Assist with observing, documenting, and supporting individual developmental goals.
Maintain intentionality in both indoor and outdoor learning environments.
Follow individual behavior and learning plans as directed by the Lead Teacher.
Family Communication & Engagement
Greet families warmly and professionally at arrival and departure.
Share daily highlights and positive observations about children.
Help prepare and distribute family communication materials.
Maintain confidentiality and respect in all parent interactions.
Encourage family involvement in classroom activities and events.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with the Lead Teacher to ensure smooth classroom operations.
Participate in lesson planning sessions and daily team huddles.
Share observations and contribute ideas for instruction and classroom improvement.
Support fellow teachers and float into other classrooms as needed.
Accept and apply constructive feedback and coaching.
Contribute to a positive, respectful team environment free of gossip or negativity.
Professional Development
Participate in required training, evaluations, and coaching cycles.
Pursue professional learning that supports GSRP standards.
Maintain active progress toward qualifying education (e.g., CDA or Associates).
Engage in goal setting and reflective practice.
Seek out leadership and growth opportunities within the center.
Classroom Safety & Licensing Compliance
Help maintain proper staff-to-child ratios at all times.
Adhere to all Michigan licensing and GSRP program requirements.
Follow daily routines and sanitation/safety protocols.
Conduct and assist with daily classroom and playground safety checks.
Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or injuries.
Program & Operational Support
Assist with student transitions, mealtime routines, and naptime.
Maintain organized, clean, and safe classroom spaces.
Help prepare for classroom events, family nights, and center initiatives.
Support the program's play-based, relationship-driven philosophy.
Follow through with assigned classroom management areas and duties.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet GSRP Associate Teacher qualifications, including:
One of the following educational credentials: An Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
A valid Center-Based Preschool CDA credential
Enrollment in a qualifying program with completion expected during the grace period
Minimum 6 months of experience working with young children in a care or school setting
Must take at least 2 credit-bearing early childhood education courses annually
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Understanding of child development and positive guidance practices
Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills

Physical Requirements
Lift and carry children up to 40 pounds
Move furniture and materials as needed for the classroom setup
Sit on the floor and interact with children at their level

Work Environment
Full-time or part-time availability, depending on center's needs
Classroom-based with both indoor and outdoor activities
Occasional evening hours for family events or staff meetings
Requires flexibility and responsiveness in a dynamic environment
