POSITION SUMMARY: As a Grade 6 Science Classroom Teacher, the ideal candidate will have the exciting opportunity to foster students' understanding and curiosity in the subject of science for all grade six students. The primary responsibility will be to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where students develop scientific inquiry skills, explore scientific concepts, and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. They will collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure academic growth and promote a love for learning.

Monitoring and assessing of progress:

Use a variety of assessment tools and strategies to gather data to monitor student mastery of instructional content, to improve instruction, and to assess the comparative performance of subgroups within the classroom.

Reflect on practice in collaboration with administrators and colleagues, monitor personal and professional growth, and pursue professional development in needed areas.

Perform relevant tasks and duties assigned by the Principal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive and standards-aligned curriculum for Science in Grade 6, incorporating the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks and district guidelines.

Lesson Planning: Develop engaging and inquiry-based lesson plans, instructional materials, and learning activities that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of students.

Science Instruction: Teach scientific concepts, processes, and skills, including scientific investigation, experimental design, data analysis, and application of scientific knowledge.

Hands-on Experiments and Projects: Facilitate hands-on experiments, projects, and investigations that encourage students to apply scientific concepts, develop critical thinking skills, and collaborate with peers.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student progress and achievement in Science using formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback and implementing strategies to address individual learning needs.

Differentiated Instruction: Implement instructional strategies and interventions to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with learning differences, English language learners, and gifted students.

Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment, managing student behavior, fostering respect, and promoting a culture of collaboration and mutual support.

Technology Integration: Utilize educational technology tools and resources to enhance Science instruction, promote digital literacy, and support student engagement and learning.

Parent Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians, providing regular updates on student progress, hosting parent-teacher conferences, and collaborating to support student learning and growth.

Professional Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues within the Science department and across other disciplines to develop integrated instructional approaches, share best practices, and contribute to the school community.

Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional growth by attending workshops, conferences, and professional development opportunities to stay updated with the latest research and pedagogical trends in Science instruction.

School and Community Involvement: Actively participate in school-wide events, committees, and professional learning communities, and contribute to the broader educational community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:

Education: Hold a bachelor's degree in education or a related field. Possessing a master's degree in education or a relevant subject area is preferred.

Certification: Hold a valid elementary/middle Massachusetts teaching license.

Experience: Have prior experience working as a classroom teacher, preferably in Grade 6 or within the elementary/middle school setting. Experience teaching Science is highly desirable.

Content Knowledge: Demonstrate a strong understanding of Science concepts, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques. Familiarity with the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks for Science is important.

Hands-on Experiments: Possess expertise in facilitating hands-on experiments and projects that engage students in scientific inquiry and exploration.

Differentiated Instruction: Have the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, tailoring teaching approaches and materials accordingly.

Classroom Management: Exhibit excellent classroom management skills, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Current authorization to work in the United States.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift (up to 50 lbs.), and perform repetitive motions.

Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, and stretching.

Standing or walking for the entirety of an 8-hour shift.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to detail.
