Full-Time, 11 months, hours: 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Position Overview Codman Academy is seeking an Upper School Science Teacher to lead an engaging, rigorous curriculum aligned with EL Education principles. The ideal candidate will foster inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and hands-on science instruction. An SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement is required to ensure high-quality education for English Language Learners (ELLs) in an inclusive environment. Key ResponsibilitiesCurriculum & Instruction Develop and implement a standards-aligned high school science curriculum with inquiry-based learning, experiments, and real-world applications. Teach Biology and Anatomy and Physiology courses, integrating project-based learning and interdisciplinary connections. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learners' needs, ensuring accessibility for ELLs and students with disabilities. Incorporate technology, data analysis, and scientific literacy to enhance engagement and learning. Student Engagement & Academic Support Create a classroom environment fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific reasoning. Use assessments to measure progress and guide instruction. Support ELLs to access rigorous science content equitably. Assist students in developing science portfolios, participating in research projects, and engaging in STEM activities. Collaboration & School Engagement Collaborate with colleagues to integrate science into other disciplines via EL Education's expeditionary learning. Participate in professional development and school initiatives. Communicate with families to support student growth. Serve as an advisor or mentor to students. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Science, Science Education, or related field (Master’s preferred). Massachusetts teaching certification in Science (9-12). SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement required. Experience teaching high school science in urban settings. Strong understanding of inquiry-based, student-centered learning. Perform other duties to support student learning and school success. Preferred Experience with EL Education or project-based learning. Background supporting ELLs and diverse learners.
