JOB TITLE: Preschool Teacher
STATUS: Full Time, Exempt
REPORTS TO: Preschool Coordinator
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Vaughn Next Century Learning Center ("Vaughn"), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern. In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD. The charter was renewed most recently in 2018. Vaughn has over 25 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district's low-income students. This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, K-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, the Lead Teacher: Is responsible for implementation of a Title 22 licensed preschool program Terms and conditions, providing leadership, child supervision, schedule and curriculum, parent relations, facility and risk management and license compliance. Is responsible for child observation and action plans to improve the program and the child's growth development and experience. Works with other site staff to achieve enrollment growth, meet Vaughn's operating standards and best practices. Must also be able to advocate for and role model healthy lifestyles Must maintain a daily attendance log Administer classroom observations, classroom assessments and have knowledge of DRDP-2015 Complete weekly lesson plans Conduct home visits and parent conferences Attend committee/staff and grade level meetings Supervise and mentor paraprofessionals Maintain children's files orderly Maintain and monitor sign-in/out forms Participates in department grade level meetings Participates in staff development Engages in Governing Committees Participates in SST and IEP meetings Communicates with support staff, administrators, team teachers and parents about student progress Completes and updates paperwork to ensure that student records are current Works beyond the parameters of a regular school day to assure the success of the program Desires to work closely with students, colleagues and community in modeling and teaching the values of Vaughn Next Century Learning Center Maintain appropriate records of student progress and other school records SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS Possess a work ethic and personal belief system that aligns with the mission and vision of Vaughn Next Century Learning Center Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact and forge relationships with students, parents, staff and community members Extremely high standards for student achievement Self-directed with the ability to work both autonomously and in teams Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills Experience and commitment to working collaboratively with staff, parents, and the community. Knowledge of Co-teaching models Experience in working in an inclusive/collaborative setting Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE B.A Degree or higher in the field of child development or education Child Development Teacher Permit and a Minimum of 12 units of Early Childhood Education/Child Development including core courses in each of the following core areas: child/human growth and development; child/family/community or child and family relations; programs/curriculum Current Pediatric First Aid; Adult, Infant and Child CPR certifications Minimum (3) year classroom experience in child development programs Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use all Microsoft Office applications. Upon receiving an offer of employment: Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan) with the Department of Justice (DOJ)and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Must provide a Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) clearance within 60 days of employment Will be assigned mandated state training to be completed prior to the first day of employment
