The Exceptional Children Coordinating Teacher, under limited supervision, supports Exceptional Children programming in schools and outside agencies. Coordinates, plans, and assists with instructional programs, providing support for all schools regarding compliance and maintaining an effective special education program consistent with state and federal guidelines, and related work.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
Provide support in the development of Individual Education Plans (IEP). Coordinate and attend IEP meetings as needed
Coordinate the scheduling of Exceptional Children (EC) staff and resources
Collaborate with compliance facilitators, designated at the school level, regarding paperwork
Develop, coordinate, and monitor implementation of improvement plans at schools, as assigned
Facilitate the implementation of progress monitoring in writing instructional plans
Model evidence-based instructional strategies as it relates to Specially Designed Instruction
Provide co-teaching support to Exceptional Children and general education teachers
Develop and provide professional development related to instruction and accountability
Provide support to beginning teachers and/or teachers that are new to the district
Review and evaluate requests for district support and outside representation
Review behavior packets to determine placement or service delivery needs
Review compliance reports for accuracy and completeness
Monitor the completion of assigned tasks in preparation for headcount
Assist in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data needed for planning student supports, reporting, determining service delivery, making student programming decisions, and providing professional development
Responsible for updating all datapoints in dashboards and systems
Participate in the development of the department's Continuous Improvement Performance Plan (CIPP)
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Acts as a liaison between school and Exceptional Children department
Represent the district/LEA, as necessary
Perform related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, standards, and expectations of Exceptional Children programming
Comprehensive knowledge and ability to interpret local, state, and federal regulations and laws pertaining to exceptional children
Comprehensive knowledge on how to utilize appropriate data and information to make instructional decisions for students
Knowledge on developing and implementing Individual Education Plan (IEP)
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of various learning styles, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning
Skilled in the use of current software to include word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing applications
Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs
Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations
Ability to conduct educational testing
Ability to effectively lead/coach other adults to improve student achievement
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums
Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business
Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required
At least three years teaching experience required
Valid NC Teaching Certification in Special Education required
Master's degree in Special Education preferred
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
