Job Description

The ESOL Teacher’s primary responsibility will be focused on the development and implementation of the ELL curriculum aligned with New York State’s reporting standards for English Language acquisition and the General Education Diploma (GED) standards. Includes teaching an intermediate ESOL course as well as GED for English Language Learners (ELLs) including academic English, math, and other cross-curricular subjects such as science and social studies.

Job Responsibilities

• Design and Implement the ESOL curricula and activities to meet academic standards with support from Director of Education.
• Develop level appropriate differentiated techniques and strategies addressing all aspects of communication that enhance each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in content areas at levels that ensure learners meet or exceed learning targets.
• Develop ESOL assessments that measure progress towards academic standards.
• Use assessment data and reflection to refine curriculum and change instructional practices and support grant/funding requirements.
• Participate in collaborative curriculum development with dynamic and passionate team of educators.
• Create a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment in a diverse classroom with high expectations that encourage student responsibility and enhance motivation.
• Attend all staff meetings and common JERS responsibilities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with two years’ experience.
• Valid New York State Teacher certification preferred.
• TABE Test and BEST Plus 3.0 Administrator preferred.
• Experience working with the refugee population or in a diverse classroom environment.
• Additional language skills an asset.
• Flexible, creative, and willing to collaborate with the team.
