Full-time/Part-time: Full-time, 10-month
Classification: Exempt
Reports to: Vice Principal of Curriculum and Instruction
Supervises: None
Salary Range: $72,000-$107,000 (depending on education level and experience)

About The English Department At Presentation High School
During four years of English classes at Presentation, students at Presentation read extensively, exploring a wide variety of authors, eras, and genres; they are also taught to express their thoughts clearly and articulately through creative writing projects, essays, and long-form critical research papers. Returning graduates often mention how grateful they feel for the college-level preparation provided by the English Department at Pres.
We are always looking to improve and are currently working on our assessments. We are evaluating the purpose of both formative and summative assessments and plan on using Backwards By Design Planning to analyze and, if need be, redesign formative assessments to ensure that we are practicing those skills we want to assess summatively.
Position Summary
Presentation High School in San Jose, California is seeking an English instructor to join the English Department in the 2025-2026 school year. We are looking for an experienced, innovative teacher who is eager to develop classrooms of belonging where students are ready to take intellectual risks and put their learning into action in the “real” world.
Duties And Specific Responsibilities
Model for students the Catholic mission and values of Presentation High School
Model a spirit of innovation, creativity, and intellectual curiosity.
Demonstrate subject matter competency and the ability to communicate that to high school students.
Devise a system of classroom order and discipline that contributes to the learning of all students.
Create meaningful connections with students through culturally responsive teaching.
Utilize provided lesson plans to deliver dynamic and engaging lessons and assignments using Universal Design for Learning and other engaging pedagogical strategies.
Be available to students who need assistance.
Exercise professionalism at all times with students, parents, and colleagues.
Participate in professional development activities of the subject area, pedagogy, and technology.
Requirements
Education & Experience
B.A. degree
Single-subject teaching credential or Master's Degree in the subject area, preferred
Relevant teaching experience, preferably 3 or more years at the high school level
Familiarity with Culturally Responsive Teaching and Universal Design for Learning is a plus
