Qualifications:

Current Alabama Teacher's Certification, Bachelor's Degree or higher with an endorsement in English

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a mass media curriculum that integrates traditional ELA competencies (writing, reading, speaking, listening) with modern media practices (digital publishing, video production, podcasting, social media content creation, etc.).
  • Create an inclusive and imaginative classroom atmosphere that promotes exploration of both historical and emerging forms of mass communication (print, radio, TV, film, internet, etc.).
  • Lead student media projects such as school newspapers, video announcements, podcasts, blogs, or social media campaigns.
  • Teach students how to analyze media messages, understand media bias, and become responsible consumers and creators of information.
  • Guide students in ethical and legal media practices, including copyright, fair use, attribution, and digital citizenship.
  • Collaborate with various teachers to create interdisciplinary units and showcase student work across platforms.
  • Serve as an advisor or sponsor for media-related extracurricular activities such as yearbook, broadcast club, or digital journalism teams.
  • Use current and available educational technology and media production tools
  • Assess student progress through both formative and summative evaluations, and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Foster strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members to enhance real-world media learning opportunities.
  • Stay current with trends in media literacy, communication technologies, and best practices in mass media education.
