English Substitute Teacher (High School)

Catlin Gabel is looking for coverage for the Upper School grades in English to begin in the Fall of 2025. Substitute teachers work on an as-needed basis to cover teacher or teacher assistant positions. Training for substitute teaching will be provided, including use of online tools. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Appreciate children and have an understanding of stages of child development
- Ability to lead students with kindness, and in an inclusive and culturally competent manner
- Positively establish, manage and maintain classroom behavior expectations
- Some proficiency with technology (e.g. Zoom, Outlook)
- Ability to support students' capacity to think critically, to infer, experiment and question using student-centered, experiential, and differentiated methods
- Ability to successfully implement lesson plans and follow routines as described by the permanent teacher
- Cooperate in school-wide supervision of students and ensure children's safety
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Science or related field is required; MA preferred
- Minimum 2 years experience teaching adolescents in social studies is preferred
- Pass background check
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred
Pay Rate for subbing:
- 1 Unit (65-minute class)= $53
- 2 Units= $106
- 3 Units = $159
- 4-5 Units (classes) = $212 max per day
