We are excited to announce that the Kelso School District anticipates hiring exceptional team members to expand our secondary team Kelso School District classroom teachers are instructional designers. They design and create lessons for the various phases of learning throughout the secondary program and sustain a high-energy, positive classroom environment favorable to academic achievement and personal growth. Our teachers establish positive rapport with students and their families and strive to motivate students to develop their skills, attitudes, and knowledge to foster the necessary foundation for lifelong learning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Work cooperatively with administration and staff to develop and implement the instructional program

Provide an effective instructional environment

Maintain appropriate records

Communicate and interpret school program to patrons

Attend staff, department and district meetings as requested

Keep parents informed through conferences and/or reports of their student's progress

Develop and maintain a flexible, effective classroom learning environment

Teach the approved curriculum

Provide instruction to students utilizing a variety of instructional strategies aimed at meeting individual student needs and utilizing appropriate and available resources, including technology

Provide for the supervision of students in the classroom and on the school premises as required

Work to develop in students a sense of consideration for others and of responsibility for contributing to the benefit of the school

Make use of multiple communication systems, such as electronic mail, computers, document readers, and smart boards

Participate in professional growth opportunities

Assist with co-curricular activities as necessary

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities

Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies

QUALIFICATIONS:
A valid Washington State teaching certificate with an English Language Arts or Elementary (K-8) endorsement required; ELL endorsement preferred.

Demonstrated strong skills and background in instructional methods

Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in curriculum and instruction, state academic standards and assessment

Experience with diversity and knowledge of and ability to teach diversity awareness

Knowledge of essential learnings and ability to integrate them into the classroom

Ability to use a variety of assessment strategies, including preparing students for the HSPE

Demonstrated interest and ability to work on development of curriculum area

Demonstrated ability to plan and carry out instructions to meet varied needs of students

Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students

Demonstrated willingness to work effectively with students, parents, and staff

Demonstrated ability to adapt curriculum to students' interests and learning styles

Demonstrated successful experience working with various ages/levels of students

Ability to communicate effectively; verbally and in written work

Experience with using a variety of technology including Chromebooks preferred

Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Fulfill all other responsibilities as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Per negotiated agreement between the Kelso School district and the Kelso Education Association; placement on salary schedule varies depending on experience and credits beyond Bachelors degree
