Our VisionKendal Early Learning Center (KELC) is a leader in person-centered intergenerational programming in Ohio for the children of Kendal at Oberlin staff members and families from the surrounding community.
KELC will unite generations with relationships that have lasting positive effects on the lives of their children and residents. This will be accomplished using an educational curriculum focusing on the needs and interests of each child and on the interests and talents of each resident according to Kendal’s person-centered philosophy. KELC will maintain an environment that is aligned to NAEYC’s quality benchmarks and adheres to our mission to develop fiscal viability through community and philanthropic resources.
Our MissionIt is our mission at Kendal’s Early Learning Center to provide the families of on-site employees and families from the surrounding community with a high-quality educational program founded on Kendal’s Quaker-based Values and Practices, which provides the following: a written, evidence-based comprehensive curriculum; diverse enrollment of all income levels from the local community; a safe, secure environment in an intergenerational setting; and trained and experienced staff.
KELC is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and has attained a five-star rating from the State of Ohio. Programs that have accomplished these credentials have completed a voluntary comprehensive process of internal self-study and external professional review to verify compliance of a high-quality learning environment in 10 critical areas: relationships, curriculum, teaching, assessment, health, teachers, families, community relationships, physical environment, and management.
Kendal is very proud of our small, intimate setting that provides an opportunity for children and their families to experience the true meaning of extended family and a strong sense of community life.

Kendal at Oberlin's Early Learning Centeris currently seeking a creative and enthusiastic full-timeAssistantTeacher.Our program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and offers a one-of-a-kind intergenerational experience, connecting children with our campus-residing Grandfriends.The Assistant Teacher willsupport classroom activities and routines while helping to create a warm, developmentally appropriate learning environment.The teacher willassist in implementing lesson plans, observe children’s development, and help maintain strong, respectful partnerships with families through daily communication and engagement.Further responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

- Planning and adapting a creative curriculum based on what most preschoolers should know and be able to do.
- Assess children's development and learning through collecting samples of children's drawings and writings and adding to the children's portfolios.
- Paying attention to and supporting children's interests, skills and knowledge.
- Learn and support all KELC curricula such as Conscious Discipline by setting clear limits for children's behavior and explain reasons.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of three years' experience working with children 2-5 years old.
- Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED with a current CDA (Child Development Associate) credential.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- Must possess or obtain within first 90 days of hire: First Aid, CPR, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Recognition certifications.
- Familiarity or training in Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline is a plus.
- A love for working with young children and helping them grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
- Must be able to take children outside in cold weather.
- Must be able to lift children, if needed, weighing 30-50 pounds.
