JOB PURPOSE:
The Substitute Associate Teacher will be under general supervision of assigned locations. Substitute Associate teachers will be responsible for the care and instruction of pre-school children and promote their social, physical and mental development. Provide supervision of children and support the planning and implementation of classroom lessons and activities. Serve meals and ensures a healthy and safe learning environment for children.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under supervision, Associate Substitute teachers will work together with program staff in planning and implementing classroom lessons, conducting meetings and conferences with parents, coordinating activities and events for children and parents, interacting with the public and providing customer service by phone, email and in person, and preparing correspondence, reports, records and other paperwork required by the early childhood education program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:
Share teaching responsibilities with a Teacher I or II
Supervise children while at the site
Conduct safety checks and ensure a safe learning environment
Prepare snacks and meals for children
Clean and sanitize food areas
Help children practice good hygiene, including personal cleanliness and diapering, as needed
Assist in planning and executing lessons and activities for children
Conduct teacher-parent conferences and home visits
Assists in learning and developmental assessments of children
Schedule, support, and follow through with the developmental screening and ongoing assessment of infants’ and toddlers’ motor, language, social, cognitive, perceptual, and emotional skills (including but not limited to DRDP-2015 IT, ASQ-3, ASQ: SE-2, etc.)
Serve as an interpreter for parents who do not speak English, when possible as needed
Prepping Family style meals and Dishwashing as needed
Performing diaper changes for children as needed
Maintain records of attendance, achievement, and other required paperwork, both manual and digital
Set up classrooms for various purposes, organize and maintain instructional and program supplies
Willing to travel to various school locations (must be able to travel a minimum of 15 miles)
Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong understanding of child development and classroom management
Excellent observation, organizational, written, and oral communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues, families, and supervisors
Basic computer skills are desirable
Bilingual abilities are a plus
Must be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills
Develop positive relationships with colleagues through professional and respectful communication and collaboration
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 6 months to 1 year working experience with pre-school children, preferably in a Head Start program. Must be at least 18 years old. Must Show proof of Department of Justice clearance to work with children prior to the start of employment. Livescan must be associated with California Community Care Licensing.
EDUCATION:
Minimum of 12 completed ECE/CD units required
AA Degree or higher with 12 ECE/CD units highly preferred
LICENSE/ CREDENTIAL/ PERMIT:
CPR/1ST Aid Certificate
Valid Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance or reliable transportation
Proof of Department of Justice clearance to work with children prior to the start of employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
T.B. Test within the past six months prior to employment, and every two (2) years thereafter (every 4 years for a chest X-ray)
Must provide health screen clearance at the time of hire, and every 2 years thereafter
Provide proof of the following immunizations as required: Measles, Pertussis (Whooping Cough) and Influenza
COVID vaccination required; must have two-dose series of Pfizer or Moderna or a single-dose of Johnson & Johnson. Those that need a medical or religious exemption must reach out separately
Representative physical demands of the job include normal vision and hearing, standing for extended periods, sitting for extended periods, kneeling and stooping, manipulating objects with hands, reaching overhead, and occasionally lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The working conditions and physical demands of this position will be those that must be met to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. The physical environment the incumbent will work in is typically a pre-school environment with moderate noise levels that would be expected in that type of work environment. Outdoor and indoor supervision of playgrounds / workplace for on-going periods occurs regularly. Lift and carry at least 25 lbs or more. Maintain visual of children, hear, communicate, speak, comprehend, walk, sit, kneel, crawl, carry, push, pull, activities indoor and outdoor as needed in an environment with children and adults.
