Description
Under the direction of the Child Development Center Director, assist in providing appropriate and quality instructional, social, and physical activities for children within an assigned age group; participate in planning, organizing, and implementing the assigned program; and assist to ensure a safe and pleasant learning environment for children.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from an assigned supervisor.

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Develop and implement appropriate early childhood development curriculum including effective learning activities and lessons for assigned children in a specific age group; prepare related instructional materials.
  2. Monitor the activities of children during meal times, play times and rest periods; oversee children's use of toys and equipment to ensure safety and social and self -help skills.
  3. Ensure that the Center is well-maintained and orderly and that its appearance is cheerful, safe and appropriate for children of all age groups; report repair and maintenance needs to appropriate staff.
  4. Perform duties associated with the care of children which may include but are not limited to changing diapers and participating in toilet training activities for children; sanitizing and cleaning counters, toys and tables before and after meals or other activities; reading stories and assisting children to fall asleep.
  5. Interact with children individually to encourage self-expression and language development; observe and re-direct behavior according to approved procedures. Refer to appropriate resources if needed.
  6. Answer questions, and provide appropriate examples, emotional support, friendly attitude, and general guidance to the children.
  7. Monitor, assess, and report progress of children's performance and behavior; assist in monitoring, assessing and adjusting activities in response to children's needs. Maintain children's documentation and portfolios to perform assessments; complete assessments and conduct parent conferences to discuss children's growth and development
  8. Prepare and set up areas for learning, social, and playtime activities appropriate to age groups.
  9. Interact with parents regarding positive behaviors, concerns, questions, and special needs of the child.
  10. Serve as a resource for student teachers and volunteers in the Center; answer questions as specifically and detailed as possible; refer students to other staff as appropriate.
  11. Assist with content and material to conduct parent education meetings based upon standards. Respond to requests from parents.
  12. Participate in professional growth activities necessary for permit renewal.
  13. Participate in District and campus related activities as assigned.
  14. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by successful completion of 12 college level units with a grade "C" or better in early childhood education and/or child development courses.
Experience:

One year of teaching experience in a child development center.
Licenses/Special Requirements:
Incumbents must possess a valid Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, or higher, issued by the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).* Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid (EMSA) within 30 days of hire.
