Summary

Under the direction of the Site Supervisor and/or Program Director, the ECE Child Care Center Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 18 months to 5 years enrolled in FIELD/EPIC ECE Child Care Centers. This position plays a key role in planning and implementing curriculum, fostering strong family engagement, and ensuring compliance with licensing and program standards. The Teacher will also provide leadership and guidance to Instructional Aides, volunteers, and substitute staff.


Essential Responsibilities

The ECE Child Care Center Teacher will:

  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and high-quality classroom environment that supports exploration and learning.
  • Guide and support Instructional Aides, volunteers, and substitutes to ensure consistency in instructional practices and child supervision.
  • Partner with families through regular communication, progress updates, and collaborative goal setting for childrens development.
  • Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, California State Preschool Program requirements, Title 22 regulations, and agency policies.
  • Contribute to program development by participating in planning, professional development, trainings, and committee activities.
  • Complete required documentation and maintain accurate child records, reports, and progress notes.
  • Represent FIELD/EPIC with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides direction and oversight to Instructional Aides, parent volunteers, and student teachers completing practicum hours.


Qualifications

  • Knowledge of early childhood education principles, curriculum planning, and child development best practices.
  • Ability to manage a classroom effectively and promote positive behavior.
  • Strong organizational, recordkeeping, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Commitment to professional growth and adherence to ethical and regulatory standards.


Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 ECE units (or 9 units with active enrollment toward completion).
  • Previous experience in an early childhood classroom setting preferred.


Certificates, Licenses & Requirements

  • Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (or completion within 14 days of hire).
  • Health and Safety Training (8 hours) or equivalent.
  • Food Handlers Certificate (within 30 days of hire).
  • Mandated Reporter Training (within 90 days of hire).
  • Valid drivers license and automobile insurance.
  • Child Development Teacher Permit (CTC) preferred; must be actively pursuing if not yet obtained.
  • Clearance of DOJ/FBI background check, TB test, health screening, and immunization requirements.


Additional Information

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Position requires occasional travel to multiple preschool sites.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., sit, stand, and engage in classroom activities.
  • Work environment is primarily classroom-based with occasional outdoor supervision.
