Assistant teachers are responsible for the supervision of up to 8 children ages 6 weeks to 36 months under the guidance of a classroom teacher.
Duties
Responsibilities include:
Using positive discipline techniques to support independence, self-regulation, and social skills
Supporting children in developing self-help skills
Record keeping
Communicating with families
Maintaining confidentiality
Maintaining conduct and professionalism
Maintaining a safe, learning environment
Implementing curriculum that supports children's growth and development in alignment with the CTELDS
Gathering data regarding children's growth and development in alignment with the CTDOTS
Maintaining required certifications - CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, Background checks, CT Charts-A-Course Registry, current statement of good health, Covid vaccinated
Demonstrating reliability and punctuality
Requirements
Assistant teachers must be at least 18 years old with at least a high school diploma or equivalent
Experience working with young children, preferably 3 references
Reliable transportation
Ability to SMILE: Smile, Make others feel special, provide Information, Listen, Engage with children
Nice To Haves
Evidence of formal Early Childhood Education coursework will increase pay rate upon hire
