Natchaug School seeks a Dual Language Kindergarten Teacher in its Dos Ríos, one-way developmental dual language program for the 2025-2026 school year. Candidate should hold CT #902 (or 009) and #305 (or 113) endorsements or other acceptable permit. Teachers should have experience teaching multiple content areas typically taught in Elementary Education and familiarity with instructional strategies used with students learning English as an additional language. Windham has a large English Learner population, and every Windham school qualifies for Bilingual Education. Most of Windham's English Learners are native Spanish or K'iché speakers. The teacher is expected to collaborate with both general education classroom teachers, special education teachers, related service providers, and other specialists. A teacher is expected to plan, instruct, and assess students based on grade-level, content-area standards, as well as engage in professional learning activities specific to Dual Language Education.Teachers in the Dos Ríos, Compañeros, & Compañeros Unidos Dual Language Programs are members of the Department of Equity & Multilingual Education. The EME Department provides language programs and services to more than one-third of the students in the district. Those programs and services include Dos Ríos K-5, Compañeros PK-5, Compañeros Unidos 6-8, ESOL K-12, and Spanish as a World Language. Windham's Dual Language teachers receive guidance and coaching throughout the year from Dual Language Specialists and a Supervisor in the Department of Equity & Multilingual Education. Essential Functions:
Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility
Ensures the safety of students
Implements the Windham Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives
Manage the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain an advantageous learning environment.
Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom
Maintains accurate and complete records as required
Attends parent/teacher conferences
Assess student learning continually and identify areas of intervention if needed.
Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Windham Board of Education.
Maintains respect for confidential information
Keeps parents up-to-date on student progress through the use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences
Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed
Design clear and specific learning assessments.
Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner.
Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior.
Maintain ongoing communication with parents
Other duties as assigned by Administrator and/or Superintendent
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials
Establish and maintain professional relationships
Participate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve instructional practice and positively affect student achievement
Qualifications/Certificates:
Bilingual(Spanish/English) preferred.
Active subject matter certificate as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education
CT Certification 902 & 305 or 113 & 110
Experience working with a diverse student demographic
