General Description
Our STEAM Summer Program integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math in a fun and dynamic way for students ages [14 - 18]. We believe in nurturing creativity and critical thinking through engaging, hands-on activities. As part of the "A" in STEAM, dance plays a vital role in helping students explore movement, storytelling, and self-expression.
We are seeking an energetic and passionate Dance Teacher to lead daily dance sessions that inspire and challenge students. The ideal candidate will blend movement with creativity and make connections to broader STEAM themes. You will work closely with our Arts and Education staff to support a cohesive and exciting learning environment.
Design and lead age-appropriate dance classes, incorporating a variety of styles (e.g., contemporary, hip-hop, cultural, jazz)
Create choreography for a culminating performance or showcase at the end of the program
Possibly Integrate dance activities with weekly STEAM themes, encouraging cross-disciplinary connections
Foster an inclusive, supportive, and enthusiastic classroom atmosphere
Collaborate with other teachers and program staff to coordinate schedules and student engagement
Maintain a safe environment that supports physical activity and expression
Provide feedback and encouragement to students of varying skill levels

Qualifications
Background in arts education, dance, or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred but not required)
Experience teaching dance to children or youth in a classroom or camp setting
Ability to engage students in both physical and conceptual aspects of dance
Positive, energetic, and flexible attitude
Excellent classroom management and communication skills
Experience working in Dance programs
Familiarity with arts integration strategies in education
Technical Proficiency in Dance
Strong foundation in one or more dance styles (e.g., contemporary, hip-hop, modern, jazz, ballet)
Strong knowledge of multiple dance styles and creativee movement
Ability to demonstrate movements clearly and safely
Knowledge of proper technique and alignment for injury prevention
Classroom and Behavior Management
Skills in creating a structured, respectful, and engaging environment for teens
Ability to manage group dynamics, transitions, and differing maturity levels
Consistent use of positive reinforcement and clear expectations
Curriculum Design and Lesson Planning
Competence in designing age-appropriate lessons that build progressively over four weeks
Ability to integrate choreography, improvisation, technique, and creative exploration
Clear goals for both daily objectives and final program outcomes (e.g., performance)
Student Engagement and Motivation
Ability to connect with high school students through relevant music, movement, and themes
Encouraging self-expression, confidence, and teamwork
Sensitivity to diverse skill levels and body types
Collaboration and Communication
Works well with other educators, program staff, and parents
Communicates effectively about student progress, schedules, and program needs
Participates actively in program planning and cross-disciplinary activities if part of a STEAM or multi-subject program
Adaptability and Problem Solving
Can adjust lessons in real-time based on student energy, interests, or skill level
Flexible in handling space limitations, tech issues, or changes in schedule
Able to pivot creatively if students need extra support or challenge
Ability to tailor instruction to diverse learners and age groups
