POSITION SUMMARY:

This position, in collaboration with other stakeholders develops and implements a rigorous technology education program and provides co curricular educational services for students.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Graduate from an accredited college or university in an approved program of study.
  2. Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate area (Business and IT, Technology Education, Health and Medical Science, Computer Science, Family and Consumer Science, or JROTC instructor approval)
  3. Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and learning in a project-based environment.
  4. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with all stakeholders and staff. This includes the ability to communicate with diverse audiences to foster professional relationships.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  6. Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  7. Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
  8. Proficiency in the use of a variety of office/instructional equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and email.
  9. Demonstrates leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
  10. Experience operating and teaching appropriate tools for the content area.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Interest in developing strong relationships with local businesses for student mentorships/internships and partnership opportunities.
  2. Building a classroom culture in which students learn through project-based, hands-on, and experiential means.
  3. Prepares students to follow a rigorous pathway from novice to advanced classes by motivating them to engage in properly leveled coursework that empowers individuals to think critically and take ownership of their advancement.
  4. Support students in after school activities related to computer science (such as FBLA and DECA)
  5. Prepare students for college and career by developing their skills/competencies according to a state-approved list in each course.
  6. Knowledge of a range of basic business and marketing principles sufficient to teach courses such as Principles of Business and Marketing, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, and Mentorship (Career Strategies). Courses assigned for the will depend on student interest.
  7. Design engaging lessons that inspire students to do their best work in an inquiring-based or project-based instructional framework.
  8. Provide a safe and positive environment focused on student learning.
  9. Perform administrative responsibilities including managing equipment used for instruction, keeping records of student competencies, assigning grades, and participating in school and district collaborative teams.
  10. Maintains appropriate state licensure and/or national level; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth).
  11. Responds to telephone, email and in-person requests, inquiries and questions in a professional, polite and responsive manner.
  12. Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
  13. Attends all required meetings.
  14. Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
  15. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
  16. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments to improve instructional practices.
  17. Proficiency in the use of a variety of office equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, email, and information system applications as well as working knowledge of cloud based applications such as Google drive.
  18. Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
  19. Proficiency in business English: spelling, grammar, and spoken language.
  20. Emotionally mature, objective, and sensitive to people and their concerns. Able to handle responsibility, work independently, and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, families, administration, co-workers, and the community.
  21. Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations and procedures.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Must effectively interact with students, staff, and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Travel may be required including on weekends and in summer months. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of administrative or licensed personnel.
