Crossroads Continuum - School is a private, non-profit day school based in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). We serve students pre-K through 12th grade and post-graduate (3-22) in a bright school environment. Our school year is 226 days.
Crossroads School is a program within Crossroads Continuum which is a non-profit, multi-service organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with Autism and related disorders from birth through adulthood. For more than 20 years, we've served individuals with Autism with personalized, evidence-based services and support. Our continuum of programs meets the needs of individuals of all ages and abilities.

Requirements
Must be able to pass all required background screenings (CORI and DDS CORI, Fingerprinting, DDPC). Undergraduate degree required; relevant experience or education preferred. Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Strong adaptability and communication skills. Ability to lift 50 pounds alone, 51+ pounds with the assistance of another person or with adaptive and specialized equipment.

Job Description
Under the primary supervision of the TEC and secondary supervision of the Education Director and working in collaboration with the Lead Special Education Teachers (LSETs), ABA Teachers (ABATs), and Related Service members, the Art and Music Teacher’s primary duty is providing Art and Music Education through leading planned Art and Music lessons for the students. The Art and Music Teacher provides instruction through the implementation of the scientific principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and within best practices in Art and Music Education in the Music Classroom, Art Classroom, and within the students’ Primary Classrooms across all hours of the students’ school day. The Art and Music Teacher is responsible for helping students achieve the goals and objectives outlined in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Behavior Management Guidelines (BMGs), and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as appropriate for the Art and Music setting. The Music and Art Teacher is responsible for coordinating the school’s Art Show and co-directing the Variety Show. Finally, the Art and Music Teacher is responsible for helping to design and modify curriculum, building materials to support the curriculum, and using the curriculum and materials to teach new skills.
General Responsibilities
Ensure the supervision and safety of assigned students. Complete high-quality work with minimal errors. Follow and be familiar with the guidelines in the Employee Handbook. Follow and be familiar with the guidelines in the Parent Handbook. Demonstrate competency on foundational ABA skills contained in the 90-Day Checklist. Drive students and staff in Crossroads’ vehicles to community locations as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Music And Art Teacher Responsibilities
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of subject matter and pedagogy. Implement behavior analytic teaching procedures in the context of Music and Art lessons. Design well-structured lessons with clear instructions, objectives, appropriate sequencing, pacing, and engagement strategies, following Massachusetts art/music curriculum. Individualize Music and Art lesson plans and teaching procedures according to the student’s individualized behavior guidelines and prompting needs (when applicable). Provide differentiated learning experiences that enable all students to participate in lessons and progress toward intended outcomes Provide ABAT’s with clear directions and expectations for assisting their students in Art and Music class Implement classroom management strategies and provide clear expectations. Provide students with the opportunity, environment, and materials to explore their individual interests and talents. Consult with student’s LSET, EBSC, and Case Managers as appropriate. Identify students with extra interest in Music or Art to join respective magnet groups (e.g., Rock Band, Art Club, etc.) Attend professional development opportunities in the Art and Music community outside of Crossroads to ensure best practices in Art and Music Education at Crossroads. Program for the generalization of skills across people, settings, and time. Strategies include: Teaching in multiple settings Teaching with multiple examples Teaching with multiple teachers Teaching with common stimuli Implement 1:1 and small-group instruction, including leading classroom groups.
Other Responsibilities
Create and maintain school-wide Art and Music class schedules. Coordinate the Art Show. Co-direct the Variety Show. Ensure an organized Art and Music Classroom with systems for storing supplies and instruments. Maintain and care for equipment and instruments. Keep an inventory of supplies and work within the Art and Music budget. Display student artwork in the art room, hallway outside the art room, and around the school year-round. Prepare for and participate in Student Day Meetings if requested. Assist the Lead Special Education Teacher in curriculum development and modification, including use of music/art materials for reinforcement, as needed. Complete end-of-day tidying responsibilities of the Art and Music Classrooms. Contribute content to social media when requested by Development Department. Write quarterly Art and Music newsletter updates for community. Attends Teacher’s Meeting as needed, to provide updates. Assist with meeting the daily staffing ratios in classrooms, if needed.
Physical Requirements
The Art and Music Teacher must meet the physical requirements below to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
Must have the ability to move quickly and confidently to intervene in situations when protective holds and/or movements are deemed necessary. Must have the ability to pursue a bolting student. Must be able to successfully complete CALM training, which requires: Lifting half of body weight Pivoting Squatting Kneeling Remaining in kneeling position for an extended time Standing from kneeling while supporting student weight without pushing off the ground with hands Shuffling frontwards and backwards Assisting a student to the floor Stabilizing a student in a standing, seated, prone, or supine position.

Attendance, Participation, And Timeliness
Demonstrate punctuality and an appropriate attendance record. Meet assigned deadlines with minimal prompts. Attend and actively participate in meetings. Attend monthly in-service trainings. Attend Crossroads events (e.g., Open House, Annual 5K Walk/Run). Complete timecards according to protocol.
Education, Requirements, And Necessary Skills
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Music Education, Art Education, Education, or Behavior Analysis. Art and Music skills (i.e. ability to play musical instruments and/or sing) Passion for expanding arts education programs for individuals with disabilities. Experience working with children with autism and related disabilities, preferred. Proficient oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines. Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Caring, compassionate, hardworking, and punctual. After in-house training, must be able to continue to meet criteria for certification in CALM V&P. Interest in building a career in nonprofit service for individuals with developmental disabilities. A valid driver’s license.
