Position Summary: Medford Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Special Education teacher to serve as the Connections Specialist Teacher within the Connections program. This role involves planning, organizing, and implementing structured, adapted lessons in art, music, computer, and Nexus using current strategies and theories tailored to students with disabilities. The teacher will employ a variety of activity formats and content, adapting instruction responsively to meet the individual needs of each student.
Key Responsibilities: Design and deliver curriculum consistent with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, adapting instruction to meet individual student needs. Create and maintain a classroom environment that supports learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. Collaborate effectively with classroom staff, related service providers, and program personnel to achieve individual student goals, classroom objectives, and overall program goals. Implement positive behavioral supports and individualized behavior intervention plans to manage classroom behavior. Be accessible to students and parents for education-related communication outside instructional hours, as required or reasonably requested. Meet regularly with the Program BCBA, Evaluation Team Leader, and Special Education Program Coordinator to discuss student needs and concerns. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services or Special Education Coordinator. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Additional Duties

Qualifications MA State Certification in Special Education Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments. Masters Degree preferred.
