TITLE: Choir Teacher
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SUPERVISES (if applicable): N/A
JOB DEFINITION OR GOAL: A middle/high school choir teacher is responsible for directing
choral ensembles, developing students' vocal skills, and
fostering a love for music through engaging and age-
appropriate repertoire. They plan, rehearse, and conduct
performances for school concerts, community events, and
festivals, ensuring high musical and performance standards.
The teacher designs and implements a comprehensive
curriculum that integrates music theory, sight-singing, and
vocal technique, aligned with state and national music
standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plans/develops music education program to promote development of students' appreciation
and knowledge of music.
2. Organizes live student performances of music to demonstrate skills to parents and
community.
3. Develop and implement a choral curriculum that meets educational standards.
4. Teach vocal techniques and music theory to students of varying skill levels.
5. Evaluates each student's musical growth, performance, and musical understanding in
relationship to the level being taught; communicates with identified staff on individual
student progress.
6. Select and arrange music repertoire for choir performances.
7. Shares with other teachers' supervisory duties and responsibility for monitoring halls and
recess periods.
8. Selects, stores, issues, and inventories equipment, materials, and supplies used in the music
education program.
9. Prepare students for concerts, competitions, and other public performances.
10. Keeps records of academic performance, attendance and social acclimation. Reports on all
aspects of student development for school records and parents; conducts parent-teacher
conferences on both a regularly scheduled and an as-needed basis.

11. Conduct regular rehearsals to enhance students' musical abilities and ensemble cohesion.
12. Organize and manage choir-related activities such as auditions and fundraisers.
13. Consults with other professionals, where there appears to be evidence of learning disabilities
or problems of social adjustment. Coordinates decisions with parents concerning any
specialized intervention, which appears warranted.
14. Reports cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.
15. Complies with Board policies, rules, regulations and directives.
16. Participates in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, educational
conferences, professional training seminars and workshops.
17. Supervises classroom aides and volunteers.
18. May perform related duties such as sponsoring a student organization or activity when
appropriate.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Be appropriately licensed and endorsed in accordance with state statutes and Board of Public
Education rules, or be considered appropriately assigned if enrolled in an internship.
2. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents,
staff and the community.
4. Ability to handle stressful situations.
5. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
