This role exists to support and implement the Mission of Magnificat High School.

Reports to: Dean of Faculty and Academics | Dean of Student Life and Formation

Classification: Full Time Teacher | 42 weeks | 1680 hours | Academic Year

Position Summary: The Musical Director and Choir Teacher is a dynamic educator and leader responsible for teaching vocal music, directing the music ministry choir, providing musical direction to the performing arts productions and for providing outreach and development of the school’s musical programming.

Major Responsibilities:

* Musical Education and Choir Direction

- Teach choir and vocal music courses to students.

- Develop vocal technique, musical literacy and performance skills in students of varying ability levels.

* Musical Director

- In collaboration with the Director of Performing Arts, provide musical direction for all performing arts student productions.

* Music Ministry o Coordinate music with Campus Ministry for all-school liturgies, prayer services and other school events as needed.

- Work closely with Campus Ministry to plan meaningful worship experiences to train and prepare student vocalists.

- Encourage student leadership in the music ministry.

* Outreach & Program Development o Actively promote the music programs within the school community.

- Collaborate with admissions and advancement teams to highlight the role of musical arts in school life and culture.

- Identify and lead opportunities for program growth through new music opportunities, courses or partnerships within the community that align with student interests and the school’s Mission.

Other Responsibilities

* Completes other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

* Ability to periodically work extended days, evenings and weekends as needed.

* Work is performed in a typical school office environment, involving frequent interaction with students, staff, and parents.

* Regular activities include walking, sitting, standing, talking, listening, and engaging in face-to-face and phone communication.

* Requires frequent reading, writing, and use of fine motor skills for handling office tasks such as managing correspondence, completing forms, filing documents, faxing, copying, and typing.

* Visual focus and attention to detail are essential for reviewing documents, data entry, and operating office equipment.

* Frequent use of computers and telephones is required throughout the day.

* Occasionally may need to bend at the waist or knees or reach above shoulder level to retrieve files or access items stored on shelves.

* Ability to lift or carry moderately heavy items, such as boxes of paper or office supplies (typically up to 20 pounds), on occasion.

Requirements:

Position Qualifications:

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in education, music education or a related field required.

Certification:

* Valid teaching certification through the Ohio Department of Education required.

Work Experience:

* Demonstrated leadership experience, either formally or informally, within a school setting.

* Prior experience in curriculum design or instructional coaching preferred.

* Demonstrated experience in choir instruction, musical theater direction or liturgical music leadership required.

Knowledge:

* Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and music traditions.

Skills and Competencies:

* Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

* Strong musical skills and proficiency in conducting vocal coaching.

* Ability to inspire students spiritually, musically and artistically.

* Ability and commitment to working collaboratively as a member of the Performing Arts Department.

* Desire and ability to build and lead additional programming and/or opportunities within the music section of the Performing Arts Department to enhance student growth and the Mission of Magnificat High School.

* Must be open to growth and flexible.

Qualities:
