POSITION: CCS Special Education Lead Teacher (Job # 3205)
LOCATION : Calvert Country School
JOB SUMMARY: The Special Education Lead Teacher will work directly with their school-based IEP Chairperson and the Department of Special Education in order to: Gain further understanding of the procedural and legal requirements of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process through attendance at various professional development activities such as IEP Chairpersons' meeting and after school workshops. Serve as an on-site resource and support for colleagues in their school building. Share information at their school in specific areas/components of the IEP process such as writing standards-based IEPs, data collection, Maryland Online IEP, etc. Facilitate professional development at their schools under the direction of the Special Education Department. Develop skills in the area of IEP meeting facilitation and decision making. REPORTS TO: Principal and Director/Supervisor of Special Education
KWOLEDGE, ABILITITES, AND SKILLS: (These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of application, the candidate must have: At least 3 years of successful teaching experience. Satisfactory evaluations and demonstrated mastery of the essential skills of teaching. Working knowledge of the Maryland Online IEP and the components of the IEP process. Ability to work effectively with adults in a professional learning environment. Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, central office personnel, parents and community members. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable. Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to those responsibilities listed below. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Support IEP Chairperson with completion of the IEP process, facilitation of IEP meetings and decision making. Disseminate information to colleagues regarding the IEP process. Participate in various professional development activities provided by the Department of Special Education. Professional development opportunities will occur both during the regular work day (substitute coverage provided) on several occasions as well as after school workshops (workshop pay) approximately two hours per month/approximately 6 months. Serve as a conduit for sharing information with school teams. Facilitate school-based professional development under the direction of the Special Education Department. Thinks, concentrates, and positively interacts with others. Comes to work promptly every day. Works flexible hours as necessary. Works under stress and meets all deadlines.
OTHER DUTIES: Performs related work as required or assigned by the Principal and Supervisor of Special Education.
UNUSUAL DEMANDS: May be subject to a flexible work schedule.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires significant periods of standing and walking and is performed in a typical school environment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Extra-duty, extra-pay position: If continued grant funding is available, lead teachers hired for the 2025-26 school year may continue in the position for the 2026-27 school year if interested and if assigned to the same school. Applicants must currently be employed as a special education teacher or speech-language pathologist due to restrictions of the grant funding. Applicants may only apply for the position at his/her assigned school.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.

This position remains open until filled . Interviews may begin as early as July 21, 2025. References must be directly related to work experience and must include immediate supervisor.
