As a Full-Time Assistant Teacher - Preschool at The Resource Connection of Amador & Calaveras Counties, you will play a pivotal role in the successful operation of the classroom under the guidance of the Site Supervisor. This position involves assisting with daily activities for children ages 3-5 years old, maintaining a safe and enriching classroom environment, and supervising children to ensure their well-being. You will collaborate with the supervisor to implement area plans, develop curriculum, and engage in parent/teacher conferences.
Additionally, you'll ensure compliance with Performance Standards, Community Care Licensing, and state regulations while contributing to the overall maintenance of the center. This role also includes completing self-appraisals, developing your professional growth plan, and fostering team collaboration among staff. Your commitment to high performance and integrity will be essential as you participate in training and support initiatives that enhance the educational experience for all involved.
Would you be a great Assistant Teacher - Preschool?
To thrive as a Full-Time Assistant Teacher - Preschool at The Resource Connection, a blend of essential skills and qualifications is required. Candidates should possess at least 9 units in Early Childhood Education, ideally with core courses, along with experience working effectively with young children, particularly from minority and low-income families. A Child Development Assistant Teacher permit must be obtained within six months of hire, along with certifications in Preventative Health and Safety, CPR, and First Aid. Strong interpersonal skills are crucial for interacting with children and families in a supportive, non-judgmental manner.
Additionally, proficiency in reading and writing is necessary for documenting observations and reports, while mathematical skills are needed for basic computations. Candidates should also be flexible, physically agile, and able to work as part of a team, adapting to the evolving needs of the classroom environment. A valid California Driver's License and the ability to meet health requirements are also mandatory.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Early Childhood Education (ECE)
- 9 units preferably core courses
- Some experience working with young children
- Child Development Assistant Teacher permit required within six months of hire
- Preventative Health and Safety Certificate
- Current CPR and First Aid
- Have experience working effectively with low-income families and adults at all levels of the socioeconomic structure of the community
- Possess knowledge of the needs of rural children and their families
- Interacts with children and is able to relate to them in a supportive and non-judgmental way in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards
- Ability to express exchange ideas in proper English (bilingual preferred - Spanish/English) and work cooperatively with staff, clients and community from varied backgrounds and experiences
- Possess the ability to read a variety of materials such as work procedures and safety rules.
- Write reports, record observations, and document conversations with proper spelling, grammar, and format
- Capability to meet deadlines and work under tight-time schedules
- Must portray a positive attitude towards children, families and staff
- Capacity to function as a team player/member
- Ability to react with flexibility and sensitivity to changing situations and needs
- Must be agile enough to perform the job of teaching small children: able to walk, run, climb, bend, reach, etc.
- Be able to stand for up to 7 hours at a time and sit for up to one hour at a time
- Lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds
- Physical Examination, proof of current negative TB test, immunizations (measles, pertussis Tdap) required by Community Care Licensing and current influenza shot.
- Valid California Driver's License and proof of current automobile insurance coverage
- Willingness to work irregular hours, attend night meetings and travel as required by the organization
