Responsibilities Assist the Program Coordinator with the development of program goals and early childhood activities. Monitor children in the classroom and document any findings regarding behavior, speech, physical or developmental delays. Plan, develop and implement lesson plans in compliance with ACD regulations. Create a nurturing and supportive environment for children. Implement various early childhood age appropriate educational, recreational and social activities that foster the children’s development and growth Engage the children in team building activities. Ensure sanitary conditions are in place when changing diapers, toilet training or assisting in dressing. Maintain up-to-date attendance. Maintain a pleasant, safe and sanitary environment in the classrooms. Attend monthly childcare ream meetings, staff meetings, professional development workshops/ trainings. Report to and meet monthly with coordinator. Act as liaison with parents. Perform additional duties as assigned by manager. Qualifications (education, professional certifications or licenses, proficiencies) At least 19 years of age High School Diploma or equivalent; some college preferred Clearances through New York State Central Registry and New York State Office of Children and Family Services First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Mandated Reporter Certification Proficiency in English required, proficiency in a second language preferred One year experience working in a day care, preschool, or special education setting preferred. New York State Teacher Assistant Certification. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Job responsibilities are included but not limited to the following: Follow all OSHA and DOH requirement Assist in creating a nurturing and supportive environment for children Assist with classroom management Ensure children’s safety, by assisting the Group Teacher in arranging the classroom environment according to the children’s needs Engage children in team building activities Assist an individual child or group of children in dressing and toilet training; change diapers, ensure sanitary conditions Understands and is mindful of how the Agency’s policies and procedures regarding personal appearance, dress code, use of body language and tone of voice impact the environment, children and families. Arrives and leaves in cooperation with the Group Teacher allowing time to set up rooms, clean up the room, and to discuss day briefly Assist in maintaining all classroom materials, such as toys, tables and chairs, clean and always disinfect. This includes regularly washing all sheets, blankets and towels used in the classroom Supervise trips which are age appropriate. Including escorting and driving children to trip destinations Cooperate in food preparation and distribution to children. Assist in the maintenance of the kitchen Assist in maintaining an open communication with parents regarding children’s progress, development, and Child Care’s policies/procedures Assist in maintaining classroom records such as the Lesson Plan Book and attendance and writing reports Write accident/incident reports in the Group Teacher’s absence Apply first aid when needed Attend regular staff meetings Attend training sessions and workshops on early childhood education Meet monthly with program director for supervision Act as a liaison with parents Substitute in another classroom at the center if emergency arises As a mandated reporter, responsible for reporting any suspicion of abuse or neglect to program coordinator and/or program director Assist the Group Teacher in completing monthly case reviews Responsible for supervising children in event of after-hours emergencies, as the designated “late” person Perform other duties deemed necessary by program coordinator and/or program director to ensure that the highest quality of service is offered Program Specific Responsibilities Assist teacher with planning & implementing lessons Assist with keeping the classroom environment clean and organized Assist with lunch preparation Assist with laundry cot sheets/children clothing Skills /Abilities Excellent time management and communication skills Good writing skills ability to work with all children 0-5 years old Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time Ability to climb five flights of stairs Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather.
