The Museum offers interactive exhibits, programs and learning materials related to arts, culture and our community. Miami Children’s Museum encourages visitors of all ages to play, learn, imagine and create together.
Position Overview:
As an Assistant Preschool Teacher, you’ll work side-by-side with the Lead Teacher to implement meaningful learning experiences that support children’s social, emotional, and physical development. Our approach blends the HighScope Curriculum with the Reggio Emilia philosophy, emphasizing exploration, creativity, and collaboration.
Essential Responsibilities:
Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing daily lessons and classroom activities.
Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times, including assisting with toileting and other personal needs.
Help maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment that supports early learning.
Build strong, positive relationships with children and promote their self-confidence and independence.
Observe and document children's development and behavior; share insights with the Lead Teacher to support individual growth.
Support classroom events, assessments, and parent communication.
Model respectful behavior and help children navigate social and emotional challenges using positive guidance strategies.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide events.
Complete a minimum of 30 hours of early childhood education training each year.
Follow all center policies as outlined in the ECI Program Staff Handbook and the Miami Children’s Museum Employee Handbook.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Education or Early Childhood Program Manager.
Requirements: High School Diploma.
Insight and enthusiasm for children, families, and community.
Demonstrates the ability to work well with young children and their families.
Sound verbal and writing skills and strong organizational skills.
National CDA and/or A.A. degree in Early Childhood Education, Museum Studies, or related field.
Minimum of 1 year assistant teaching experience in a preschool environment.
The Department of Children and Families 45-hour courses.
Pediatric First Aid and CPR certificate.
