Job Title: Art Education Teacher
Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County (ACADC), Lone Tree, CO
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Dean of Fine Arts and PE
Work Hours/Days: School calendar- Monday through Friday, Typical School day, Professional development, and work days.
Position Summary:
The teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment. This role includes guiding students through structured, content-rich lessons in a specific discipline, nurturing intellectual curiosity, and instilling moral and civic virtues. Teachers provide students with a robust educational experience during each class period, ensuring they develop academically and personally. In addition, teachers are expected to maintain clear expectations, demonstrate subject matter expertise, and care for the individual growth of each student.
- Cultivating virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming
- Maintaining professionalism in conduct and communication, striving to exemplify our core virtues
- Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide for each school year
- Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
- Assign, collect, grade, and return graded work in a timely manner
- Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning
- Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
- Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
- Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule
- Participate in professional development as offered by ACADC and Hillsdale College's K12 Office
- Maintain confidentiality in student records
- Maintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
- Deliver engaging and inclusive art lessons for students in grades K-12, focusing on skill development
- Evaluate and monitor student progress through regular assessments and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
- Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
- Manage and maintain art equipment and supplies, ensuring they are safe and in good condition
- Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations.

Required Skills/Abilities
- Teachers with a bachelor's degree in the subject taught are preferred, or at a minimum 36 hours of higher education credit in the subject area of instruction. (In some cases, a passing grade in a content exam will suffice.)
- Minimum of 36 credit hours in Early Childhood Education preferred; Colorado Teaching license not required
- Strong background in relevant content areas with a willingness to receive specific training

- Proficiency in a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate information and issues
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their personal best
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment with superior organization and computer skills
- Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and team members

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
- Must be able to traverse the classroom and the school
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or standing to teach
- Must be able to supervise outdoor recess
