The E.O. Smith High School Social Studies Department is a dynamic and collaborative team of 12 full-time educators, including 11 classroom teachers and a department director. Our curriculum is designed to foster engaged, informed citizens and includes required courses in Modern World History, United States History, and Civics. We also offer 15 elective courses across the discipline, with instruction available at the college preparatory, honors, and advanced (college-credit bearing) levels. We are seeking a full-time teacher to join our department for the upcoming school year. The position will include teaching Modern World History, with the potential to expand into elective courses in the future. SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT PROGRAM GOALS QUALIFICATIONS Possess or be eligible for Connecticut certificate: History and Social Studies (026). Possess qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with all stakeholders. Experience or demonstrated understanding of providing culturally relevant instruction is preferred. TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES Work cooperatively with teachers to develop and implement meaningful UbD 2.0 curriculum that includes inclusive, engaging, and rigorous instruction and assessments for all students that is based on local, state, and national standards. Communicate regularly and effectively with all stakeholders. Use student data effectively to plan student remediation, acceleration, and intervention. Create and maintain a student-centered classroom environment that promotes active learning and critical thinking. Provide multiple opportunities and means in which students can demonstrate mastery of skills and concepts. Continuously maintain and review student progress through both graded and ungraded assessments. Actively participate in both department and school-wide professional development opportunities and school-sponsored events. SALARY: In accordance with the agreement between the Region 19 Board of Education and the Region 19 Teachers' Association. 2025-2026 salary range is $52,791-106,053.
