Part-time with option to grow to full-time (School Year Contract/Calendar)

Summary of Position:

The music teacher helps students discover the world of music, both vocal and instrumental, through a comprehensive musical education program. This position helps students explore their musical skills and grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing instruments and worshiping in chapel. Music teachers will work collaboratively to ensure a cohesive K3-12 music program that aligns with ALCS's educational objectives. Music teachers are expected to actively contribute to chapel services and other spiritual development activities.

Required Education:

  • Have obtained a Bachelor's degree; preference given to music or music education degrees
  • Preference is given to candidates with state-level teacher certification

Required Spiritual Qualifications:

All faculty and staff shall:

  • Have received Jesus Christ as his/her Savior
  • Believe that the Bible is God's Word and standard for faith and daily living
  • Be in agreement with school's Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education
  • Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others. This includes being committed to God's Biblical standards for sexual conduct. Luke 6:40
  • Be a member in good standing at a local church that has a Statement of Faith in significant agreement with the school's Statement of Faith
  • Show by example the importance of Scripture study and memorization, prayer, witnessing, and unity in the Body of Christ
  • Have the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to "train up a child in the way he should go"

All faculty shall:

  • Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children's education and be prepared to assist them in that task
  • Place his/her teaching ministry ahead of other jobs or volunteer activities
  • Demonstrate a love of children and heart to serve others
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance
  • Respectfully submit and be loyal to authority
  • Refuse to use or circulate confidential information inappropriately
  • Avoid gossip and practice Biblical conflict resolution (Matthew 18)

Essential Job Functions:

Music Teachers shall:

  • Reflect on the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and in every activity
  • Motivate students to accept God's gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling
  • Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ
  • Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities
  • Keep proper discipline in the classrooms and on the school premises to promote a healthy learning environment
  • Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished
  • Teach music theory, including rhythm, melody, pitch, and tempo
  • Teach students to play instruments
  • Lead rehearsals for school performances
  • Direct and coordinate school choirs and bands, ensuring high quality performances
  • Organize and execute musical events and concerts that showcase students' talents.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and leadership to coordinate a family and community engagement event that highlights music and other area of fine arts education.
  • Plays a key role as a part of a creative team in the planning and production of annual play or musical
  • Leads worship for weekly middle and high school chapels.
  • Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  • Maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student's progress
  • Help prepare/set up classrooms and learning spaces prior to the first day of school
  • Set up classroom or equipment as needed prior to class
  • Establish and enforce rules of conduct for activities; teach safety skills
  • Adapt activities to students' special needs; develop appropriate modifications when required
  • Monitor use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities
