Position Summary
The Afterschool Lead Teacher is responsible for developing and leading a safe, engaging, and educational afterschool program for children ages 5–12. This role includes planning age-appropriate activities, supporting academic growth through homework assistance, and fostering social-emotional development in a structured yet fun environment. The Lead Teacher will serve as a role model for students and a leader for support staff.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times
Plan and implement enriching daily activities (STEM, arts & crafts, physical play, etc.)
Assist with homework help and academic enrichment opportunities
Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that encourages learning and exploration
Promote positive behavior using age-appropriate guidance techniques
Communicate daily with parents/guardians about their child’s experience and progress
Collaborate with fellow staff and administrators to maintain a well-run program
Maintain attendance records and daily logs in accordance with OCFS regulations
Set up, clean, and organize learning materials and program spaces
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor's in Education or related field preferred
Minimum 1–2 years experience working with school-age children in a group setting
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain
Able to work weekday afternoons (and full days during school closures, if applicable)
Preferred Skills
Experience in lesson planning and classroom management
Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate behavior management strategies
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Passion for mentoring and making a difference in children’s lives
