Summary

Red Caboose Child Care Center, in partnership with the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic 4K Teacher to lead a high-quality, play-based half-day preschool classroom. The ideal candidate will be passionate about early childhood education, culturally responsive practices, and building strong relationships with children and families. The 4K Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters each child’s development across all domains.

Duties

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, MMSD-aligned curriculum using the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (WMELS) and Creative Curriculum.
  • Create a welcoming, respectful classroom where all children and families feel seen, valued, and included.
  • Promote learning through play and inquiry-based experiences that support social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Assess and document children's progress using district tools and observations.
  • Maintain open, respectful communication with families and collaborate closely with co-teachers, Red Caboose staff, and MMSD.
  • Participate in MMSD professional development and required district meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing, YoungStar, and MMSD 4K program requirements.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment in accordance with Red Caboose policies.


Requirements

Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field.
  • Valid Wisconsin DPI teaching license with Early Childhood (EC) or Early Childhood–Regular Education (EC–Regular Ed) certification.
  • Commitment to anti-bias education and inclusion of diverse families.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience teaching 4K or preschool-age children in a play-based or Reggio-inspired program.
  • Familiarity with the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards and Creative Curriculum.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities a plus.
