This educator will be responsible for creating a supportive, challenging, respectful environment in our student-run restaurant. We are seeking a candidate who can comfortably employ appropriate instructional methods to meet the needs of all learners.
The ideal candidate is familiar with the Massachusetts Vocational Technical Education Frameworks and has ample industry experience that allows them to effectively deliver curriculum in a dynamic, hands-on commercial kitchen environment. They possess a demonstrated skill and working knowledge of various cooking methods and have experience with a full range of food service operations (back of the house, front of the house, catering, etc.)
The ideal candidate prioritizes relationship building, has experience designing engaging culinary learning experiences, loves working with high school students, and demonstrates enthusiasm for the complexity and pace of an operational restaurant.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Demonstrating appropriate long-term and short-term preparation for classroom instruction
- Holding high expectations for all students
- Organizing and using a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings
- Assessing student progress, providing specific feedback, and using the results to adjust instruction as needed
- Securing and organizing materials for classes
- Maintaining consistent routines and procedures to create a safe student learning environment that is ready for learning for all students
- Build positive relationships with all PSB families
- Participate in ongoing professional development
Preferred Qualifications:
- Vocational Technical Teacher license in Culinary Arts
- ServeSafe Manager Certification preferred
- Comparable teaching or industry experience (i.e., chef or restaurant manager)
- Proficiency in working with students in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
