Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County (ACADC)- Lonetree, CO

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Dean of Upper School/Dean of Student Services

Work Hours/Days: Faculty Calendar, School days, professional development days, Full time 50% Teacher (Math) 49% SPED Paraprofessional

Salary Range: $43,000-$52,000 Annual Salary

Position Summary: The Upper School Math Teacher & Student Support Specialist plays a dual role in providing high-quality math instruction while supporting students with diverse learning needs through direct instruction, classroom collaboration, and implementation of educational plans. This educator upholds the mission of Ascent Classical Academy by cultivating virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming.

Essential Functions:

Instruction and Academic Support

  • Prepare unit and lesson plans in alignment with Hillsdale College's K-12 Program Guide
  • Teach and mentor high school students in math using classical pedagogy methods
  • Provide targeted one-on-one or small-group support, especially for students with learning plans or those needing academic extensions
  • Adapt instructional materials and use appropriate accommodations for students with IEPs, 504s, or other support plans
  • Reinforce academic concepts and study skills including note-taking, organization, time management, and task completion
  • Utilize adaptive technology or equipment as necessary
  • Monitor academic progress and implement strategies to improve student understanding
  • Collect and record data related to student performance and behavior to assist in progress monitoring and reporting on IEP goals
  • Assist with classroom behavior management using positive reinforcement and interventions
  • Help implement behavior management plans under the guidance of the special education teacher or specialists
  • Collaborate with general and special education staff to support differentiated instruction and ensure inclusion
  • Maintain regular (usually weekly) communication with parents regarding student progress
  • Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and other school-based team collaborationsSupport students in developing social skills and positive peer relationships
  • Supervise students during transitions, arrival/dismissal, hallway passing, lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times
  • Assist with the setup and organization of classroom materials and school resources
  • Ensure student safety at all times and be prepared to respond to emergencies
  • Participate in faculty mentoring through the Upper School House System
  • Demonstrate professionalism in conduct and communication, modeling core virtues
  • Attend and actively participate in professional development offered by Ascent Classical Academy and Hillsdale College's K-12 Office
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and sensitive documentation
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance, arriving on time and adhering to scheduled work hours
  • Complete all required training and provide documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the school mission and operations

Requirements:

  • Teachers with a bachelor's degree in the subject taught are preferred, or at a minimum 36 hours of higher education credit in the subject area of instruction. (In some cases, a passing grade in a content exam will suffice)
  • Strong background in relevant content areas with a willingness to receive specific training

  • High level of proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to effectively fulfill teaching responsibilities, including delivering instruction, engaging in professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues, maintaining accurate records, and complying with curriculum standards and school policies.

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate information and issues

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to traverse the classroom and the school
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer
  • Must be able to supervise outdoor duties
