Transient - Children's Center Assistant Teacher
The Transient Teacher is responsible for assuming the duties of a classroom teacher or assistant teacher on an as-needed basis during staff absences. The transient teacher ensures a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for children and supports classroom routines and policies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times, being alert to individual and group needs.
- Know how many children are in your care at all times, as well as their names and ages.
- Assist with daily classroom activities and routines as directed by the lead teacher or center administration, which may include:
- Supervising children during meals and assisting with food service and cleanup.
- Changing diapers, assisting with toileting, and administering medication in accordance with the center's Medication Policy.
- Cleaning and maintaining classrooms, restrooms, storage rooms, and hallway areas.
- Vacuuming and mopping classrooms and bathroom floors as needed.
- Preparing or helping set up classroom materials and activities.
- Documenting medication administration, diapering, feeding, and naps on daily report forms.
- Observe and report any special needs, concerns, or suspected cases of child abuse/neglect to the Director immediately.
- Handle discipline promptly and in accordance with the center's policies, using Conscious Discipline techniques daily.
- Maintain required teacher-to-student ratios and adhere to licensing regulations related to supervision, sleeping procedures, and hygiene practices.
- Be familiar with and follow all center policies and procedures.
- If closing the facility, follow the Visual Check Day procedures before departing.
- Complete at least 12 hours of approved educational training annually, as well as CPR/First Aid, Health and Safety, and Medication Administration training.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the Director.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be able to pass a Child Care Background Check.
- Must obtain Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification.
- Previous childcare experience preferred.
