PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Third Teacher collaborates with a team of two experienced teachers to provide children with developmentally appropriate activities in a quality early childhood program. This role supports a safe, nurturing environment while promoting the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children. There is a focus on consistency in teaching daily routines and schedules. There may be Behavior Plans or IFSPs/IEPs written by professionals that must be implemented by this teacher, as well as the full-time co-teachers.
The Third Teacher is assigned to a specific classroom where a child with persistent unsafe behaviors or moderate to severe disability is enrolled. The Third Teacher works 5 ½ hours per day for a period of 3 months.
Supports a warm, secure, affectionate, social-emotional classroom environment for young children, aligned with RCMA Positive Discipline guidance. (Note: Physical interaction, such as lifting, touching, holding, and comforting a child, is necessary.)
Supports the delivery of a high-quality early childhood education program and early intervention services by implementing the High Scope curriculum activities, daily routines, schedules, and Pyramid Model Framework.
Consistently uses classroom rules and procedures that establish and maintain a safe, healthy, and inclusive classroom and outside environment. Actively contribute to building a sense of community among the children and staff.
Implements the IFSP/IEP for the child with a disability or Behavior Plan/Interventions for a child exhibiting persistent, unsafe behaviors.
Adheres to all RCMA funding guidelines and Department of Children and Families (DCF) regulations.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with the community being served is preferred, including relevant occupational or cultural experience, such as farmworker experience when applicable. Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, with a focus on professionalism, collaboration, and mutual respect.
Possess a current certification in Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Pediatric First-Aid.
