CCTE AME Educator in Technical Theatre and Design We are seeking a passionate and experienced educator to continue building and supporting our Technical Theater Design & Production program. This position is ideal for a kind, passionate educator with a love for teaching the skills in technical theatre, event production, and design who is eager to inspire creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving in young artists. This role falls under the Career Technical Education (CTE) Arts, Media, and Entertainment pathway. It includes teaching middle and high school students the foundations of theatrical production while supporting school productions and co-curricular projects. Scope of Work Develop and implement project-based curriculum in scenic, costume, lighting and sound design.
Teach the full design process: research, conceptualization, drafting, construction, and reflection.
Supervise student builds, rehearsals, and productions after school as needed.
Maintain a safe, organized shop space in accordance with current safety standards (OSHA, PPE).
Integrate hands-on exploration and technology (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Vectorworks).
Scaffold age-appropriate lessons to support student growth in technical and artistic skills.
Provide formative feedback through rubrics, reflection, and student exhibitions.
Collaborate with high school Design & Production faculty and other arts teachers to align instruction and co-mentor performances.
Communicate regularly with parents, students, and staff.
Support a positive and inclusive classroom culture that fosters teamwork and creative risk-taking.
Minimum Qualifications Credential Requirements Educators will need to have earned or be willing to earn a valid California Designated Subjects CTE credential in Arts, Media, and Entertainment or eligibility to obtain one (three years of industry experience and a high school diploma or equivalent required for eligibility).
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Theatre Design/Production, Technical Theatre, or related field. Minimum two years of professional design or production experience.
Experience managing an educational shop or practicum program.
Strongly preferred: history of teaching or mentoring middle school students.
Proficiency in digital design and drafting tools (Vectorworks, SketchUp, AutoCAD).
Familiarity with lighting systems (ETC EOS family), sound reinforcement, and tool safety.
Expertise in classroom management, formative assessment, and project-based learning.
Experience integrating cross-disciplinary arts and emerging tech (e.g., AR/VR, makerspace tools).
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
