Position OverviewUnder the supervision of the Manager of Preschool, the Teacher / IS provides specially designed instruction to preschool-aged children who may be blind or have low vision in an integrated classroom setting that aligns with each student's Individual Education Plan goals and objectives. The IS collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists, COMS, and teacher assistants, to deliver high-quality, individualized education services. The IS develops plans and maintains ongoing documentation of implementing the plan, monitoring students' progress and their assessments.Essential functions: Instructional Duties: Create a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes collaboration and peer interaction. Prepare indoor and outdoor learning spaces with appropriate accommodations. Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Creative Curriculum and program goals. Adapt instruction to meet the unique needs of preschoolers with visual impairments and other disabilities. Use evidence-based teaching strategies and resources to support all learners Provide personal care and follow medical plans as trained (e.g., toileting, feeding). Maintain daily documentation of student activities, services, and progress. Incorporate assistive technology and tools that support the learning needs of visually impaired students. Train students and staff on using assistive devices and software effectively. Collaborate with supervisor to plan the annual preschool activity calendar.Collaboration and Professional Development Collaborate with TVI and related service providers (OT/OTA, PT, SLP, COMS) to support students' development. Participate in team meetings and maintain open communication with families and staff about student needs, progress, and goals. Supervise, train, and evaluate Teacher Assistants on classroom strategies, technology use, and student-specific needs. Build strong relationships with families and team members to ensure high-quality, coordinated services. Engage in ongoing professional development, including CVI and Active Learning, and complete at least 10 hours annually as required by OCCRRA. Share relevant strategies and knowledge with colleagues to support inclusive practices.Assessment, Progress Monitoring, and IEP Implementation Conduct regular assessments, including ASQ/ASQ-SE, to monitor development and adjust instruction. Maintain accurate records, complete documentation, and write quarterly progress reports for families and school districts. Collaborate with the team to develop, implement, and update IEPs tailored to students with vision impairments. Ensure IEP goals are appropriate and implemented through classroom instruction and 1:1 support as needed. Share concerns and progress with supervisors and team members to support student growth.Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding special education and services for visually impaired students. Ensure compliance with ODJFS rules and regulations for child care centers. Prepare and maintain required documentation and reports in a timely and organized manner. Initiate the Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) process in collaboration with the supervisor and actively monitor the process until it is finalized and the highest possible rating is achieved.Agency-Wide Initiatives: Participates in CSC initiatives and programs aimed at promoting inclusion and accessibility for all clients who are blind or have low vision. Contributes to developing and implementing policies and practices that support CSC clients. Other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of principles of education of young children with disabilities Ability to formally assess needs, develop and implement strategies/ interventions via Individualized Education Plans (IEP) Knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Part B. Demonstrates knowledge of the functional implications of low vision and blindness. Demonstrates knowledge, skills and use of AT devices. Demonstrates knowledge of community resources. Ability to work with diverse parents/caregivers and children Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong understanding of visual impairments and their impact on learning. Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team Ability to be self-directed. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), electronic health records, and vision rehabilitation technology. Excellent organizational and project management skills with precise attention to detail. Must clear a full background check and pass a drug screening. Must pass employee physical examination for Child Care.Supervision functions: N/APreferred Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in early childhood special education or related field. Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and SUTQ process. Experience in implementing Creative CurriculumEducation: Bachelor's or Master's in Early Childhood and/or Special Education. Ohio Teaching license in Early Childhood Education & Special Education (PK-3).
