Description Position: Special Education/Alternative Education Teacher School: Waukesha East Middle School – Junior Phoenix Program Grades: 6-8
Job Summary:
Waukesha East is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education/Alternative Education Teacher to join our middle school Junior Phoenix Program. This classroom serves students in grades 6-8 who are navigating academic, social, or emotional obstacles within a traditional school setting. With a low student-to-teacher ratio and full assistant support, this position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a caring and nurturing learning environment.
Our program is designed to meet the diverse needs of our students by emphasizing grade-level academic learning standards, social skills, and problem-solving through authentic, hands-on experiences. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in helping students develop into their best selves and prepare for high school and beyond.
Responsibilities: Develop and implement individualized education plans and personalized learning plans
Develop and implement individualized lesson plans aligned with grade-level academic standards.
Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages personal and academic growth.
Teach and model social and problem-solving skills through authentic learning experiences.
Collaborate with support staff to ensure student success.
Monitor and celebrate student achievements, both big and small, to build confidence and motivation.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with families and caregivers.
Contribute to the positive school culture by participating in staff meetings, professional development, and school-wide activities. Qualifications: Valid teaching license in Special Education OR Alternative Education (OR ability to obtain).
Passion for working with middle school students.
Strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
