SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Care and supervision of multiple children in a child care setting, whose ages range from six weeks to kindergarten. SCOPE: Provide care and supervision of children in a child care or classroom setting. REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: Child Development Collaborate with team to plan, implement and communicate age appropriate activities which facilitate the social, emotional, physical and mental development of assigned children. Provide responsive, developmentally appropriate care for guiding children's behavior and engagement, such as inquiry, redirection, verbalizing feelings, encouraging problem solving; and setting consistent limits to help children develop inner control. Maintains and demonstrates high-level knowledge of child development and evidence based practice. Communication Work with team to complete clear documentation and written reports that facilitate communication with parents, co-workers and regulatory agents including daily reports, lesson plans, newsletters and professional development plans. Use a variety of communication strategies to support constructive relationships by being accessible, approachable and engaged. Integrates family requests and traditions into classroom. Provide non-judgmental support for parents. Respond quickly to parent concerns. Assessment Assess each child's development using progress reports, screening instruments, direct observation, information from families and other stake holders. Collaborate and communicate assessment information with the classroom team. Link assessment information with success oriented growth opportunities in all developmental domains. Improvement Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions. Work with the classroom lead to maintain budget targets by recommending purchases, staffing structures, and process efficiencies. Compliance and Regulations Maintain knowledge of and compliance with NAEYC code of ethics. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with city and state regulations and accreditation requirements governing early education and care programs. Accurately completes required Child and Adult Care Food Program (or CACFP) documentation, follows rules for food service, and attends CACFP training as necessary.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required: · High school diploma or equivalent · 1 year of work experience in a related job discipline Preferred: ·Cert. in first aid, recognizing child abuse & recognition of common childhood diseases
